02.08.2012 Meme

Sounds familiar, right? Seems like you can't go on Facebook these days without somebody talking about it. You know they wouldn't talk about it in person, because you're certain nobody knows how to correctly pronounce it. It makes you laugh, even though it feels like it's almost too low brow and simple. But what is it? (Prepare for the knowledge... and if you don't actually care, just skip this part.)

"A meme is 'an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture.' A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena."

"The term 'Internet meme' refers to a concept that spreads rapidly from person to person via the Internet, largely through Internet-based email,blogsforumsImageboardssocial networking sitesinstant messaging and video streaming sites such as YouTube." (Source: Wikipedia)

This is what people have labeled as a "meme," though it's only one form of meme in a whole universe of meme options. But let's not get particular, and let's just enjoy Ryan Reynolds for a moment.
